The ICON System ™ GAS VALVE
New Bradford-White water heaters are now available with an advanced electronic gas valve, at no additional charge, which provides more stable-and-efficient precision electronic regulation of your hot water temperature.
The new gas valve includes a built-in igniter that eliminates the need to open the combustion chamber to light the pilot, or mess with matches to start a pilot light.
The system requires no external electricity supply (it is powered by a thermocouple heated by the pilot light).
(This system can also be retrofitted to other Bradford-White water heaters, directly, or replace Robertshaw or White-Rodgers gas valves on most older Bradford White models.)

But the new gas valve is just part of the revolutionary new ICON System. A variety of optional accessories enable you to refine your water heater investment by ordering any (or all) of the following advanced, cost-saving, water-heater safety and performance/efficiency options, as you wish. They could wind up saving you a great deal of money, while giving you even more hot water from your water heater.
- The ACCESSORY MODULE
This add-on unit enables the addition of any ICON System™ accessories. It includes:
- the power supply and connections for all the other ICON System accessories, driven by an additional thermocouple heated by the pilot light. No external electrical power source is required.
- an alarm for the PROTECTION PACKAGE. The alarm also signals if certain other conditions exist with your water heater system. It can be reset or silenced.
- The PROTECTION PACKAGE
A safety feature: an add-on unit which includes a sensor to detect a water heater leak, and a connection that triggers the alarm in the ACCESSORY PACKAGE. The alarm can be silenced or reset, but when triggered by the leak sensor, it provides an audible alert of a problem, to help you prevent water damage. Even the very best water heaters have a limited life, and that commonly ends with a leak. The PROTECTION PACKAGE may alert you to a small problem before it becomes a big, expensive one.
- The WATER INLET SHUT OFF VALVE
An extra leak-protection safety feature: an add-on unit which can be added to the PROTECTION PACKAGE. If a leak is detected by the PROTECTION PACKAGE, this valve can automatically shut off the fresh water supply entering the water tank, to limit leak damage. This may provide some damage protection for you even when you are away.
- The PERFORMANCE PACKAGE
A performance & efficiency feature: an add-on unit which provides versatile thermostat-style programmable control for your water heater -- allowing you to get the most hot water possible, when you need it, with the least wasted energy.
The LCD display/control unit is a fully programmable, 7-day / 4-periods-per-day, digital control. It can be attached to your water heater, or remotely mounted elsewhere in your house or business.
Depending upon your environment and settings, the ICON System PERFORMANCE PACKAGE may cut your water-heater's energy bill by over 35% -- quickly paying for itself -- while providing you with up to 50% more continuous hot water, when you need it most.
Set the unit to provide you the extra hot water you need -- WHEN you need it -- while selecting lower energy settings for days and times when you have the least need for hot water.
For instance, you can program the heater to always get hotter during early mornings, on weekdays (for start-of-the-workday showers and breakfast), and in the early evening (for dinner) -- but set it to heat the water less on early weekend mornings, and at night, while you sleep.
Also included is a mixing valve to provide different water temperatures for different applications. The mixing valve allows the water heater to heat water to hotter temperatures, but then automatically combine it with measured small amounts of cold water before sending it to your faucet or shower -- for safe, comfortable temperatures, but a longer continuous supply of adequately hot water. The mixing valve includes tap-offs that allow you to distribute two different temperatures of water to separate appliances or outlets.
With over 150,000 units already in the field, the ICON System™ is a technology that's proven durable, reliable and simple. And your investment in ICON System accessories is not permanently tied to the water heater. If you replace it with another ICON System water heater, the accessories can be moved to the new water heater.
